Rocker 'wobbles' into town
22 September 2004
One of the greatest rockers of the last couple of decades, Jah Wobble, bursts on to the local music scene with a gig at the Nerve Centre this Friday night, September 24.
With his roots in Public Image Ltd (PIL), Jah Wobble has been around for a while - moving on from punk but always staying just outside the mainstream.
It was PIL's avant garde experiments on Metal Box that ushered in a credibility to punk's more frivolous tendencies.
Wobble was the first musician of that era to be taken seriously by the older music press, even though he had only just picked up a bass lent to him by Sid Vicious a few months before joining PIL.
When Wobble left PIL in 1980, the heart of the band was ripped out.
He threw himself into a range of projects, working with everyone from German experimental rock group Can's Holger Czukay and Jaki Leiezeit to The Edge.
It's not easy to predict what to expect at the Nerve Centre on Friday night. Come along at 9pm and part with £10 to find out.
