Jail for ex-Oasis wife's flame
Sep 23 2004
A POLICE raid on a compound in Cobham being used as a crime base led to the fiancé of Noel Gallagher's ex-wife being jailed for nine months.
Christopher Flynn, 32, admitted conspiracy to steal at Kingston Crown Court on Monday.
The court heard he fled across a golf course when officers swooped and was still on the run when he met fashion designer Meg Matthews on the Costa del Sol.
Last year he proposed to Miss Matthews, 38, but the publicity put detectives on his trail and led to his extradition.
Miss Matthews, who had visited him in jail and sat in the public gallery during a previous hearing, was not in court to see him put behind bars on Monday.
Five counts of handling stolen goods and one of possessing a prohibited weapon were left on file.
The story began in 2001. Caroline Carberry, prosecuting, told how police were carrying out an undercover surveillance operation on the compound at Cobham, which was being used as a base to commit crime, when they spotted Flynn with accomplices Simon Rymes and Frank Sines.
Officers watched the men, who were wearing gloves and overalls, and saw Flynn making off in a car.
The car returned an hour later and Flynn was in the passenger seat wearing gloves and with his hair ruffled as if he had been wearing something on his head.
Police raided the compound and arrested Rymes and Sines and found a double-barrel shotgun.
But the court heard Flynn ran off across a golf course and escaped.
Among the items officers found were a balaclava, a cosh, a device to listen to local police transmissions, three walkie talkies and a bug-finding device.
Miss Carberry said also found was a black bin bag with Flynn's fingerprints on it which contained a pair of jeans, a mobile phone regis-tered to him, £300 in cash and an aerosol pen containing CS gas.
David Whittaker, defending, said Flynn had been out of trouble for two-and-a-half years and his only involvement was on that one day.
Mr Whittaker told of Flynn's romance while he was in Spain.
He said: "He commenced a relationship while he was in Spain and that continues now. She is a lady who regularly appears in the press. She is a celebrity.
"Because of this his movements have been monitored and although he didn't give himself up he was well aware that his arrest was imminent and it must have been known he was in southern Spain."
Judge William Thomas told Flynn, of Ascot, Berkshire: "You were part of a highly professional, organised and deliberate conspiracy to steal a car."
Rymes was jailed for two years and Sines three years, in 2002, for their part in the conspiracy.
Fashion designer Miss Matthews and Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher were married for three years and divorced in 2001 following a bitter court battle where she won a £4m settlement.

Oasis Announce Release Date by Lowri Williams on 9/23/2004
Noel Gallagher has let slip the anticipated release date for their seventh album.
In a Sky One show last night, Tim Lovejoy And The Allstars, The elder Gallagher brother revealed that the band have given themselves a deadline of May 26 in order to release this eagerly anticipated new album.
Noel said: "May 26. We’ve got a release date now, which is why it’s been meandering for a bit because we’ve not had a date to work to because we’re extremely successful. So they just say ‘Alright, finish when you finish’ – but it’s kind of been rambling on and not working too hard on it but now we have to have it finished by May 26."
It seems that Liam has become more involved with the actual song writing of the album, rather then just belting out the tunes. "He’s written a few. It’s a pity they’re not going to make it onto the album. We’ve demoed 66 songs and he’s written a fair few. Some of them are really good but he’s going to have to do a solo tour ‘cause I’m not doing a triple album."
Lets hope they just get one album finished on time.

Following their critically-mauled headline show at Glastonbury, Oasis scrapped sessions intended for the follow-up to ‘Heathen Chemistry’, which included a period recording with Death In Vegas. Noel also revealed last night that brother Liam is becoming ever more prolific as a songwriter. "He’s written a few. It’s a pity they’re not going to make it onto the album. We’ve demoed 66 songs and he’s written a fair few. Some of them are really good but he’s going to have to do a solo tour ‘cause I’m not doing a triple album." Also appearing on the show were the Happy Mondays, who made their first television appearance for eight years, since being banned from Channel 4. Other guests included footballer Stan Collymore and live bands The Ordinary Boys and The Rakes.

Nine-month jail for ex-Oasis wife's flame
Sep 23 2004
AN Ascot man on the run from police was caught after details of his high-profile romance with the ex-wife of rock star Noel Gallagher were published in newspapers.
Christopher Flynn, aged 32, of Fisher Drive, was jailed for nine months on Monday after admitting conspiracy to steal a car.
Flynn had fled to the Costa del Sol in Spain to escape custody and while there met fashion designer Meg Matthews at a party.
They fell in love and after a year he proposed to the former wife of Gallagher, songwriter with the band Oasis, buying her a £30,000 ring.
Publicity surrounding Flynn's engagement to Ms Matthews put detectives on his trail and he was arrested at his £350,000 hideaway villa and extradited back to Britain.
Flynn and Meg were due to marry this summer but instead he appeared on Monday before a Crown Court at Kingston after pleading guilty to conspiracy to steal a car.
He had been further charged with five counts of handling stolen goods involving two Audi cars, a Ford Transit van, a Volvo and more than £90,000 worth of global positioning satellite units' and possession of a prohibited weapon - a CS gas pen.
Flynn denied these other charges and they were ordered to be left on file.
Caroline Carberry, prosecuting, said police caught Flynn after an undercover surveillance operation - on a compound at Cobham, Surrey, which was being used as a base to commit crime - when they spotted Flynn with accomplices Simon Rymes and Frank Sines.
Police later raided the compound, arrested Rymes and Sines, and found a double-barrel shotgun.
The court heard Flynn had a previous conviction in 1994 for possessing an ecstasy tablet and cannabis and after being brought back to Britain from Spain he appeared at Reading Crown Court in April where he was jailed for 10 months for dangerous driving and absconding.
David Whittaker, defending, said Flynn had been out of trouble for the two-and-a-half years he spent in Spain, and his co-defendants Rymes and Sines were professional criminals who were "well at it".
He said Flynn's only involvement was on that one day and he was not part of the others' substantial criminality.
Mr Whittaker said, of Flynn's romance: "She is a lady who regularly appears in the press.
"Because of this his movements have been monitored and although he didn't give himself up he was well aware that his arrest was imminent and it must have been known he was in Southern Spain."

Liam writes 50 songs for Oasis album
Noel Gallagher says Liam has written more than 50 songs for the new Oasis album.
He says the band have far too much new material for the album - and Liam's written most of it.
Noel was the band's sole songwriter but Liam contributed three songs to 2002's Heathen Chemistry.
Noel said: "We've written 66 songs, the majority of which I can't believe our kid's done.
"I've only written 14 of them. He's done most of the rest of them."
The Gallaghers have been working on songs for their sixth studio album for much of the year but scrapped their work to date following Glastonbury festival.
However, the band are now back in the studio with producer Dave Sardy, and are re-recording from scratch.
Noel added: "One of the songs on there The Importance Of Being Idle is one of the best tunes I have ever written. It is The Kinks meets The La's. It is blinding."

Gallagher: Be here now is 's**t'09/10/2004Oasis songwriter Noel Gallaher has slammed his band's 1997 album Be Here Now as "s**t" and the result of his cocaine habit. Gallagher, who has since cleaned up, claims Be Here Now was sub-standard because the band were allowed as much time as they pleased and were granted access to anything they wanted. Speaking on this weekend's TV show UK Music Hall of Fame, to be aired on Channel 4, he says: "Good times don't make for good music. All the good music's made in the bad times. "Definitely Maybe - written, unemployed; recorded, broke. Same with Morning Glory - recorded, broke, in twelve days. "Be Here Now - three months, anything you want, s**t. "Although I never listen to it, I kind of like the fact that it's there if I ever want to go and listen to a soundtrack to my own cocaine, overweight, alcoholic madness."

OASIS AND BLUR UNITE FOR BAND AID IIINoel - Preparing to join forces with an old enemy Pic:A.WillsherBRITPOP arch rivals NOEL GALLAGHER and DAMON ALBARN have reportedly put their differences aside and signed up for BAND AID III. The Oasis and Blur stars, who famously fell out back in 1995, have become the latest big names to agree to help raise cash for stricken victims of famine in Africa, according to a report in today's (October 22) Sun newspaper. Ure told The Sun: “Noel said he’s going to do it and I heard Damon is going to do it as well, but as one of the Gorillaz. “So whether he’s going to actually be in the studio or whether it’s going to be a cartoon character, I don’t know. But they’re both going to do it.”<br> As previously reported on NME.COM, other acts reported to be taking part include Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Jamelia and Dido. The single - a re-recording of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' - is hot favourite to be the Christmas Number One, and will also feature the original version released in 1984. A re-recorded version also reached Number One in 1989. The original raised £8 million for famine relief in Ethiopia and spawned the massively successful Live Aid concert in July 1985. Midge Ure — who co-wrote the charity song with Bob Geldof — is masterminding the new version, which is likely to be recorded at a London studio on November 14.

Noel And Damon Sign Up For Band AidPosted by ben on October 22, 2004 Many thought they would never hear Blur and Oasis members collaborating after their famous rift that lasted the majority of the 90’s, but Noel and Damon will be lending their support to the new recording of band aid hit ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’. Coldplay, Travis, The Darkness and Keane are already on the list being compiled by organiser Midge Ure, who is also trying to get Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Robbie Williams to participate. Ure has expressed his delight at the line up so far and confirmed that there are plenty of willing artists ready to be called upon: “It's a pretty big line-up, once you've got a handful of people like that, the rest of it will come. The phones are ringing off the hook right now.” When asked which part he was looking forward to most, he replied: “I'm desperate to hear Keane and Coldplay just open that tune up with their pianos and then The Darkness play the harmony guitar bits at the end - it should be great fun.” The original recording, which was released 20 years ago, raised £3.5 million for famine relief and featured artists such as Paul McCartney, U2 and Status Quo.

Williams lined up for Band Aid25/10/2004Singing sensation Robbie Williams is being lined up to take part in recording sessions for charity fundraiser Band Aid III. The Feel star is on organiser Midge Ure's wish-list, although it is not known whether Williams will agree. One stumbling block is there could be problems with Oasis star Noel Gallagher's involvement, as the two men are widely known to dislike one another. Ure says: "Robbie's part of my dream team but he is so big, we would have to make sure he didn't overshadow the whole thing."

Oasis Heckled at The Apollo GALLAGHER BOOED OFF BROWN'S MANCHESTER GIGOctober 26, 2004OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER stormed off stage during a recent concert in his home city - after disgruntled fans threw bottles and booed at the shocked singer. The DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER rocker had hoped to surprise fans by making a surprise appearance at ex-STONE ROSES frontman IAN BROWN's gig, to perform their duet KEEP WHAT YA GOT at the Apollo Manchester, Britain. Gallagher was horrified by the crowd's inhospitable reaction but Brown rescued the concert by telling off the fans and dragging Gallagher back onto the stage to finish the show. One fan says, "The gig was fantastic, until Noel spat out his dummy. He came on as a surprise guest but he was booed and a pint was chucked at him and went all over his guitar. The Ian made some comment about how Noel is his hero and that we should show him some respect." A UNIVERSAL RECORDS spokesman contends, "Noel said somebody threw a half-pint of lager on him and it went all over his jacket and guitar. So he went off to give his jacket to a roadie. Ian went to see why Noel had stopped playing, so that's why he walked off as well."
