A Few Quick Questions With
Jim Walker...
PiL's original drummer until departing in 1979,
answers a couple of questions for John-Lydon.tk (via e-mail)
Was it ultimately the fact that the other bands members were kinda getting lethargic, the main reason for you leaving the group? You couldn't see much progression, so figured move on?
Yes, as soon as it became absolutely clear that PiL was never going to function as a proper band it was time to leave.
I've read that you viewed Rotten as having all the power, as far as the business/contract side of PiL went. Were you a little worried about getting fleeced?
Getting ripped off, business wise was behind my decision to leave; that and the fact PiL under Lydon soon degenerated into something not unlike Col. Kurtz' camp from Apocalypse Now...No Method.
Do you see influences of early PiL in todays music industry?
Influences; sure alot...but more say 5-6 years ago, as PiL aren't being listened to by the up and coming musicians of today...not like we used to be.
Any possibility of the You Stupid Person' (early PiL demo) making an appearence?
(I figure this is just my wishful thinking!)
Ask Rotten that, as last time I looked he had the tapes.
I'm interested in your views on the 'Filthy Lucre Tour' & the 2002 dates.
No comment, the post 1978 USA tour Pistols hold little interest.
Did you keep much in the way of PiL memorablia, any sentimental gems stashed away?
Had some stuff. Mostly stolen by druggie brother...(Oh well)
Was working with Wobble in 'The Human Condition' a little easier than PiL, I mean with Johns huge presence not around?
Wobble is Wobble is Wobble...but to answer that somehow...we wern't under the same pressure as PiL.
When was the last time you had contact with John?
I don't speak regularly with any of them, but suppose from time to time its possible to say hello.
Johns reported as having alot of cling-ons around him at the time you were in the group, were these people friends or employees?
Parasites posing as employees, bleeding the PiL organisation white.
Whats coming up in the future, any plans?
Currently I'm directing.
Thanks for your time Jim.
All the best.
