The third summer concert at Clipper Magazine Stadium will feature a double play of New Wave pioneers Blondie and The New Cars, featuring new frontman Todd Rundgren.
Announced by Pollstar.com, the rock standouts will visit Lancaster July 2 on the latest announced stop of Road Rage Tour 2006.
Lancaster Barnstormer officials said concert details have not been finalized.
It's been 17 years since the last tour by The Cars, one of the most successful and influential bands of the late-'70s-early-'80s New Wave era.
This year's tour features original guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboard player Greg Hawkes, as well as an all-star cast of artists: Rundgren, vocalist/guitarist formerly with Utopia; fellow Utopia bassist/vocalist Kasim Sulton; and Prairie Prince, former drummer for the Tubes.
The band added Rundgren late last year when former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek rejected plans to tour or participate in a possible new album. Cars bassist/vocalist Ben Orr died of cancer in 2000. The original Cars split up in 1988 after more than a decade together. The group generated several hits, including classics such as "Just What I Needed," "Let's Go" and "My Best Friend's Girl." The band's 1984 hit, "Drive," was its biggest, hitting No. 3 on the Top 100 list.
Touring with its original members fronted by Debbie Harry, Blondie's eclectic hit-making sound toyed with such diverse styles as salsa, funk, disco, reggae and rap. The band likely will perform its classic hits "Call Me," "The Tide is High" and "Sunday Girl," as well as "Heart of Glass" from Blondie's famous 1979 "Parallel Lines" album.
Blondie was part of the latest group elected to enter the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Blondie joined Black Sabbath, Miles Davis, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Sex Pistols at an induction ceremony in March.
Barnstormers officials said they will announce the time of the show, when tickets go on sale and admission costs sometime next week. The concert will follow the team's afternoon game against the Newark Bears, which will begin at 1:35 p.m.
